Underground mining transformers can be divided into two types of transformers based on usage scenarios.
One is a universal transformer. The other is a mine explosion-proof transformer.
Generally, general-purpose transformers are oil-immersed transformers, which are mainly used in places where there is coal dust and methane, but there is no danger of explosion, for power lighting and power drag. The interior is the same as that of a normally used oil-immersed transformer. The main difference between the two is the outer casing and the incoming and outgoing wire devices.
Explosionproof transformers are mainly dry-type transformers, which are mainly used in mines where there is a risk of explosion. There are production requirements for its box shell and conductor lines.
Dry type ining transformer structure
Shell: It adopts a fully corrugated structure and is made of welded steel plates. It has the characteristics of high mechanical strength, low temperature rise and good heat dissipation effect. Can withstand internal pressure of 1.0 MPa.
The box cover is made of steel plate, with two cable outlet sleeves on it. Rubber gaskets are placed on the inside of the outlet sleeves. The cable passes through the rubber gasket. After tightening the coil, the rubber gasket can be used to compress the cable to ensure sealing. The selected cable outer diameter, it must fit closely with the rubber gasket to ensure that the cable can be compressed and completely sealed to ensure performance.
Internal dry-type transformer: Class H insulation.The low-voltage winding adopts a cylindrical structure wound with copper foil, and the high-voltage winding adopts a segmented multi-layer cylindrical structure, which is vacuum-impregnated and baked at high temperature to achieve balanced ampere-turn distribution and low magnetic flux leakage. Small, high mechanical strength, good heat dissipation conditions, strong short circuit resistance and low noise.

A low-noise air-cooling device can be configured, and the start-up and shut-down of the fan can be automatically controlled by the thermostat, thus allowing the transformer to operate with a 40% increase in capacity.
Through the temperature sensing element and sensing system embedded in the low-voltage winding, the fan can be started and shut down or alarmed and tripped according to the set value to protect the transformer.
The dry-type transformer is equipped with IP20 to prevent foreign objects with a diameter >12mm from entering the casing. The dry-type transformer is equipped with IP23, which can also prevent water at an angle of <60° from the vertical from entering. The protective cover can effectively prevent accidents such as short circuits and power outages caused by small animals entering the cover, and also ensures personal safety.
The low-voltage side of the mining transformer allows "Y"-shaped connection to provide 690-volt power supply, or it can be changed to form-connection to provide 400-volt power supply. Six porcelain sleeves are directly led out of the secondary end in the cable junction box for user modification.
The insulation system of KBSGZY series mining explosion-proof power transformers is based on DuPont Nomex paper technology and has high safety performance.
In order to ensure the normal operation and safe use of mining transformers, a series of protection measures are required.
1. Overload protection: When the load of the mining transformer exceeds its rated capacity, the overload protection device will automatically cut off the power supply to prevent the transformer from being damaged due to overload. Overload protection is usually implemented using thermal relays or electronic overload protectors.
2. Short circuit protection: When a short circuit occurs at the output end of the mining transformer, the short circuit protection device will quickly cut off the power supply to protect the transformer from damage due to the impact of short circuit current. Short circuit protection is usually implemented using electromagnetic or electronic short circuit protectors.
3. Leakage protection: During the operation of the mining transformer, leakage may occur due to insulation aging, environmental humidity and other reasons. The leakage protection device can detect the leakage current and cut off the power supply in time to ensure the safety of people and equipment. Leakage protection is usually implemented using a residual current device (RCD).
4. Temperature protection: Mining transformers will generate a certain amount of heat during operation. When the temperature of the transformer exceeds its rated value, the temperature protection device will send out an alarm signal and take corresponding cooling measures to prevent the transformer from being damaged due to overheating. Temperature protection is usually implemented using temperature sensors and thermostats.
5. Oil level protection: Mining transformers are equipped with insulating oil for cooling and insulation. The oil level protection device can monitor the oil level inside the transformer in real time and send an alarm signal when the oil level is too low to ensure the normal operation of the transformer. Oil level protection is usually achieved using a float-type oil level gauge.
6. Gas protection: During the operation of mining transformers, there may be a risk of gas explosion due to gas leakage and other reasons. The gas protection device can detect the gas concentration and cut off the power supply in time to prevent gas explosion accidents. Gas protection is usually implemented using gas sensors and gas controllers.
7. Mechanical protection: During the operation of the mining transformer, the mechanical structure may be damaged due to vibration, impact, etc. The mechanical protection device can detect abnormal vibration and impact and take corresponding protective measures to ensure the normal operation of the transformer. Machinery protection is usually implemented using vibration sensors and vibration controllers.
In short, the protection content of mining transformers covers many aspects such as overload, short circuit, leakage, temperature, oil level, gas and machinery, etc., aiming to ensure the normal operation and safe use of the transformer. During actual operation, mining transformers also need to be inspected and maintained regularly to discover and deal with potential safety hazards in a timely manner.
